Cabin insulation kits from Summerhouse24
Cabin insulation kits are a great way to increase comfort, energy-efficient space, and create a space that can be used 365 days a year. Insulating your cabin at the point of installation is significantly easier and more cost-effective than retrofitting it later.
To make choosing simple, we have streamlined our range into two recommended kits.
Great news: Both of our insulation kits include our Hansa ISO Window & Door Insulation System as standard to ensure maximum draught-proofing and efficiency.
1. Floor & Roof Insulation Kit
Our most popular option, it is the perfect choice for creating a multi-season garden room or workshop, providing excellent protection from the chill of autumn and spring and keeping the space cooler in summer.
This kit includes:
- Floor Insulation: 25mm rigid insulation boards to fit between the foundation beams.
- Roof Insulation: 25mm insulation boards and 11mm OSB sheets to create an insulated “warm roof” structure.
2. Full Insulation Kit (Floor, Roof & Walls)
This is our premium, all-season solution. This kit ensures your cabin remains cosy and warm, even in the depths of winter, and pleasantly cool during hot summer days.
This all-inclusive kit features:
- Floor Insulation Kit: 25mm rigid insulation boards that fit snugly between the foundation beams, stopping heat loss through the floor.
- Roof Insulation Kit: A “warm roof” system of 25mm insulation boards and 11mm OSB sheets. This sits above your cabin’s roof boards (but beneath the final roof covering).
- External Wall Insulation: This system builds onto the outside of your cabin and includes:
- Sturdy insulation supports (95x45mm).
- High-performance 100mm Rockwool panels
- A vapour barrier to protect the structure from moisture.
- External tongue and groove Spruce cladding boards (18x113mm)
- All necessary window/door reveals and metal sills
Hansa ISO Window & Door Insulation (Included in Both Kits)
The Hansa ISO system has been specifically designed to insulate the concealed voids between the window/door units and the cabin wall logs, while still allowing the natural movement of the wood to occur. This is especially effective against strong wind and driving rain.
Why are there voids in the first place? Due to the natural properties of wood, it expands and contracts throughout the seasons. It is vital that the building can “float” to compensate for these changes. Window and door units must be rigid, so voids are left around the sides and top. The units are then secured with fascia boards.
Why is the Hansa ISO system different? Our system uses high-quality, flexible materials to seal around the window unit and cabin walls, filling the void with a high-thermal-efficiency flexible foam. The materials remain flexible and breathable and will not hold moisture. You can see the system demonstrated in the following video:
Installation Guides
How to Insulate Your Cabin Floor
The floor insulation kit consists of 25mm insulation boards. We recommend using screws to support the boards and keep them level beneath the floorboards.
- Fix screws into the foundation beams, 25mm from the top of the beam. Place screws on both sides of the internal beams, approximately every 30cm.
- Cut the insulation boards to size so they sit tightly between the foundation joists.
- Install the insulation boards, resting them on the screws.
- Install the floorboards on top.
How to Insulate Your Cabin Roof
The roof insulation kit consists of 25mm insulation boards and 11mm OSB sheets.
- Place the insulation boards on top of the main roof boards, starting from the lower end and cutting the last boards to size.
- Place the OSB boards on top of the insulation boards.
- Fix the OSB boards with screws.
- Finally, cover the roof with your chosen covering (felt, shingles, or EPDM).
How to Insulate Your Cabin Walls (Full Kit Only)
Our external wall insulation system involves:
- Building the 95x45mm wooden frame onto the exterior cabin walls.
- Fitting the 100mm Rockwool panels securely within the frame.
- Applying the vapour barrier to the outside of the frame.
- Fixing the new 18x113mm external cladding boards to the frame. This becomes the new exterior of your cabin.
- Finishing the window and door openings with the supplied reveals and metal sills.

Treatment requirement:
When your cabin is assembled and insulated, the exterior wood requires application of a high-quality wood preservative and waterproof top coating (including all internal and unseen parts of the doors and windows). External cladding boards are natural Spruce, so treatment is essential.
