Hosting a BBQ this Summer? Here are the Essentials you Need

01.04.2021

With the weather getting warmer and warmer each day it seems, and things beginning to look a little more like normality, we are starting to get more excited about the prospect of hosting Spring and Summer BBQs in our garden. We can host family get togethers, host meals with friends or even invite our neighbours round to enjoy burgers and some good drinks.

With all of this in mind, we are soon all going to be in the process of updating our gardens and making sure they are ready to host these types of get togethers. I have put together a short guide on some of the essentials you need in your garden this Summer.

A Great Outdoor Rug

Outdoor rug

Without doubt, one of the most essential items you need for your garden this Summer is a great outdoor rug! Whether you are going to place it in your conservatory to stop muddy footprints from getting into your house, on your decking such as the image shown to add some additional comfort in your communal areas, or even placing it on your patio to give you somewhere nice and comfy to stand when you are BBQing.

Outdoor rugs come in a range of colours, sizes and materials and they are often weatherproof, meaning they will be able to survive come rain or shine. The most popular material for an outdoor rug to be made in is Polypropylene as it offers the perfect blend of comfort and durability, meaning it’s often able to stay in place all summer.

An Amazing Outdoor Dining Table

Another huge essential for a successful Summer BBQ is a great outdoor dining table. Whether you are planning to have your family/friends sit around the table to enjoy their food, or you are going to place your food on the table and eat in a communal way, it cannot be done without a proper outdoor table.

You have the option to go DIY here and build one yourself, this is a great option especially as a conversation starter, but it is often easier to purchase one that has already been built. A great place to look is Modish!

Ice, Lots of Ice

Ice

Quite possibly the most essential item on this list, except for the obvious things like your food and BBQ. Whether you are going to serve alcoholic drinks, non-alcoholic drinks, or a combination of the two, you need to ensure you have lots of ice at the ready to keep your drinks cool! This is especially helpful in the Summer months when most outdoor BBQs take place.

There are various ways to keep your drinks cool in the hot months! The most classic option is going to be placing your ice in a bucket and placing your drinks in there. This technique is shown in this image. However, you can choose different ways to cool your drinks depending on what suits your needs, whether that is through keeping them in your fridge inside the house or outside.

There really is nothing better than cold drinks at a Summer BBQ!

Tiki Torches

This is one you may not have thought of for your own Summer BBQ, but have you considered placing Tiki torches into your garden? We all know what happens at a family BBQ, sometimes people are there long into the night enjoying the company, so we need to ensure we have creative ways to both add to the ambience and keep your garden light enough so as to not be a hazard to everyone in your space!

Outdoor Sofa

Another essential to make your garden ready for hosting Summer BBQs successfully is an outdoor sofa. There are several different stores available for you to purchase one from depending on where you are in the world.

One of the great things about an outdoor sofa is the fact you can seat many people in comfort in your space. This example shown can comfortably seat three people, with an additional person on the chair to the side. This is especially good if you are planning on staying outside for a good amount of time!

The one disadvantage of outdoor sofas is that many of them are not weatherproof, so if you are expecting rain then you need to have a good way of covering them up. Many suppliers will sell the sofas with a cover, but you may have to pay an additional cost for this. The cost is well worth it, though. Especially if you want your outdoor sofa to last for years.

Outdoor Pizza Oven

Here’s a left-field suggestion for you. But if you are looking to spice up your family get togethers, why not invest (or build yourself) a lovely outdoor pizza oven for your space? Of course, this will depend on whether you have the budget and space available in your garden, but if you do, then you really cannot go wrong!

One of the downsides of Summer is purely the number of BBQs that are held. It can become repetitive very quickly if you are not careful. Hosting a homemade pizza party instead is a great way to break the norms of outdoor get togethers and can offer your dining experience a completely different dimension.

Conclusion

So, there you have it, some amazing suggestions to ensure you have ready for your first Summer BBQ of the season! Do you have any suggestions of your own? Comment below, we would love to hear your thoughts!
